M50m2 + EF-M 55-200mm - Fuzzy Results, User or Lens issue?
2

I received a used EF-M 55-200 from eBay this week, and unfortunately the front element was far more scuffed than the listing picture initially showed.

AR Coating coming off? I did some Googling, though, which informed me that it shouldn't impact IQ at all.

I took it out for some shots on P mode to test the lens, but I found myself disappointed with nearly all of them when I got home and started pixel peeping. I later did research, finding that I should stop down a bit to around f/8 or f/11 and fix the ISO lower. Unfortunately, that didn't seem to help even when I tried it this morning.

I'm not sure if I'm expecting too much from this lens, but I've seen some way, way sharper images from this lens on this forum, so I'd like to know if there's something wrong with my lens.

I am very new to photography, so it is entirely possible this is a behind-the-viewfinder issue. I did my best to use back button focus and single point focus AF, so I think I positioned the DOF as best as possible in most of these. Hopefully the EXIF data shows up when hovering for the below sample images, which should clarify what I mean by fuzzy. These are all JPGs straight from the camera. Would appreciate some thoughts on this.

Bird and the branch are a bit fuzzy when you zoom in. Could be the harsh backlight on the right?

Again, fuzzy image. Could be the ISO? I didn't get much better results when I lowered the ISO this morning, though.

Fuzzy, but could be the intense light.

Fixed the ISO lower but it didn't seem to help. The detail is lacking a lot, and there's not much sharpness when pixel peeping. I took this in broad daylight, but in some shade.

Indoors lens sharpness test. Fairly disappointed with this in comparison to the sharpness of the 22 f/2, which, to be fair, is a prime lens.

In comparison, this picture from the 22 f/2 is exceptionally sharp.
