It's nice how you purposely ignore all other cameras except for canon compacts.

Canon didn't help kill compact cameras by removing the old OVFs because everyone did it and also, they are not actually extinct.

The sony HX90 and sony rx100 III sell for around $300 and have usable EVFs(bigger actually than the tiny OVFs compacts had), the rx camera has been around since 2014.

Canon did help push their own sales down by not investing more in further developing these pocket cameras(and reliability wasn't exactly great either) but again, they are not the only ones.

You came all the way to our humble abode of Poweshot talk, to accuse me of only talking PowerShots? Where’s the mod?

I’m joking about mod intervention, but seriously, aside from that Ricoh, the situation with Panasonic; they are, what was the words the exec used? Evaluating, future demand or something to that effect? Nikon is dead in point and shoots, and Sony only did the vlogger rework of their RX100. It’s a grim climate for point and shots, not just Canon to your point. It’s a sad day for all parties involved. My condolences, sincerely, to other camera brands point and shoots. Oh and Fuji is fine, but they only have a fixed lens X100 offering is the problem.
