Two of my favorite flashes on the M Series are the (light and compact) Flashpoint Zoom Mini (Godox TT350C), and the Nissin i40. Both have nice external controls (and of course TTL).

Hi R2D2,
is the Nissin i40 working with your M50 Mk II? I have the same flash, but the Camera says this flash is not compatible. It worked fine with the older M50 first generation.
You might have an incompatible setting somewhere (like eShutter, etc). I'd start by setting the camera to A+ Mode, and the flash to TTL. Try it like that first. Then find out which setting(s) you need to change in the other mode(s).
I have full compatibility with my M6 Mark II (I don't have the M50 Mark II), but I don't see that there would be any reason that it wouldn't be compatible with your M50 Mark II. Best of luck! Report back.
yes, report back
my Odin's work perfectly on the M6II. I'd expect the M50II to work fine also with third party. It was that SL3 that Canon really screwed up

Thanks for your help! But I am totally embarrassed as I solved the problem now. I took the flash out of my camera bag the first time for almost a year now. And did not realize, that I mounted it backwards since the flash can be turned by 180 degrees. Time to laugh, hope I made your day now.
