Printing your photos?
24

I've meet so many photographers these days with Leicas, GFX & Sony A1 etc who don't print or only done a few prints in their lifetime.

I love printing. A photograph for me is not a photograph until it's printed. It's just a digital file on a screen.

If I could not print, I'd stop taking photos. A print is so much more rewarding than a backlit computer screen.

So I have a few questions

  • Why buy gear for thousands of dollars if you only will post on Instagram ( a 50MB file becomes 200kb)
  • Why buy gear if you just gonna zoom in on your computer to see sharpness instead of enjoying the photograph as a print. No one who buys a photograph zoom in on the printed photograph.
  • Why don't you print?
  • Why pixelpeep, when you only post on Instagram and care about the Instagram feedback.
  • Why do you need all these megapixels if you don't print?
  • I've made great prints with APS-C 16mp cameras in 28 inch (70cm) prints. If you don't print bigger why do you need 50mp?

I see photography slowly losing its soul, just like music. We used to love buying vinyl, looking at the artwork, learning all the songs by heart and adore the albums together.  Now we just choose from millions of songs on Spotify and look at millions of photos on Instagram.

I listen to alot of podcasts and many of the photographers don't print, don buy photobook/magazines and only care about the likes and the followers more than their own photography.

Am I the only one who think the photography world has gone a bit blind?
