Camera for the Month of November - DP1M

Smashing work Graham, thanks for sharing.

Thanks Rick, comments appreciated 😎

very good choices...The bw/color combo (umbrellas) is great and the presentation of clouds by Merrill is as expected - excellent.
thanks, Rick. I'm glad the Merrills are in my "quiver".

The images in this thread really are stunning. Can't wait to see what folks have done with the other DPMs.

Mine got a lot of mileage during a trip to New Mexico.

I also like using the Ricoh GW-3 wide-angle adapter for a 21mm equivalent. It has some significant chromatic aberration but gets the job done.

Thanks for the images...I noticed the two you mentioned were taken with a Ricoh show DP1M in the exif.

Are you shooting RAW or Jpeg? You could bring the clouds down quite a bit.

Thanks! The Ricoh GW-3 is a screw-on wide-angle adapter lens that is meant for the Ricoh GR cameras, which have the same focal length and filter thread as the DP1M. Adding it gives you a 21mm equivalent view. It's very sharp; enough to produce quality images despite the demanding Foveon sensor.

The Ricoh GW-3 might not work so well with the DP Quattros since they have a much larger filter thread than the DP Merrills. A 58mm (?) thread I think.

49mm for the DP1M and DP2M, and 52mm for the DP3M. The DP Quattros all share the same filter thread of 58mm.

I find that the DP2M and DP3M are both excellent. Supposedly the DP3M is the "sharpest" of the bunch but it's a tighter field of view and telephotos tend to be better corrected anyway.

But they are both better than the DP1M, which is still crazy sharp for a wide lens. But it shows a little chromatic aberration in some situations even stopped down. Usually, it's easy to correct, even with the Ricoh GW-3, but I find SPP isn't great for green fringing.

Ah, gotcha. They use the same filter thread. Re. optical quality: I don't know; both the GW-2 and GW-3 were designed for a 16-MP sensor, so maybe they are both equally sharp. To confuse matters more, there is also a Ricoh GW-4, designed for the 24-megapixel Ricoh GR III. I don't know if it's better or not. But it's a lot more expensive; I found the GW-3 to be perfect!

No adapter is needed; it screws right on the filter thread of the DP1M. I hope you do as I'd love to see the differences between it and the DPQ0.
