You still can. In Ricci’s video he put the old FTZ on and it still fits. The only thing is the foot gets in the way of your fingers when you’re using the vertical grip orientation. It’s fine if you use it normally or are ok with finding somewhere else to rest your fingers in vertical grip.

That's not great for people who want to shoot vertical ? The R adapter doesn't interfere with the R3, that's poor design on Nikon's behalf.

It is and that's why they introduced the FTZii. The new one is the old one just without the foot.

Not quite. The FTZii gives up support for Nikon D lenses (screw-drive lenses, I believe). These lenses require electronics in the adapter--presumably in the "chin" of the FTZ adapter--to drive these older lenses. Thus, the FTZ supports D, G, and E lenses, whereas the FTZII supports G and E lenses only. Some Nikon users are upset that they can no longer use D lenses, which purportedly have better bokeh. Personally, I couldn't get rid of my D lenses fast enough, so this change doesn't bother me.

NO Nikon FTZ adapter will allow AF on AF-D lenses, version I or version II. so they never " dropped" that support, it was never there to start with, all they really dropped on the FTZ II is the tripod mounting foot.
