12-200mm: 3 strikes and out?
24

I got a used Olympus 12-200mm f3.5-6.3 yesterday afternoon and I took a few shots with it. Here is one at 200mm f6.3 that is just meant to show what the worst focal length (max zoom) at the worst aperture (wide open) can do. Click to see it full size. It has 3 big strikes against it though:

1. Handheld at 1/500 so not such a high shutter speed for handholding at 400mm-efl, but the IBIS does a nice job.

2. Shot as a Large Normal JPEG. Super Fine and Fine are better quality with less lossy compression. Raw would have been best, of course.

3. I had to rotate the photo 2 degrees in Lightroom so that, of course, slightly reduced the resolution and sharpness.

I just did some simple Basic Panel editing in Lightroom and my fairly normal workflow.

Oh, I saved this full-size JPEG at just medium quality so it is smaller than the original Large Normal JPEG (3.71mb vs. 4.24mb) so that is strike 4. Subject is probably about 1.5km away.

Of course, this won't satisfy many people, but so far I am satisfied. I need to do some careful shooting in raw to draw final conclusions though.
