The difference, I believe as a former Z user (still have my Z7 II but doesn’t get much use anymore) is Nikon is coming from behind. Until the Z9 no Nikon mirrorless AF could compete with either the Canon R5/6 or Sony A7RIII or higher. Lots of us formerly Nikon users took notice and grew impatient with the snail pace of Nikon’s progress and lack of longer native lenses. The Z9 pricing is Nikon’s way of keeping the flock together. Had Nikon priced higher I think more users would have left putting Nikon in a bad place as far as user base goes.

Canon otoh had a rocky start to the R line but the R5/6 was a home run. Lots of people bought in to the RF system because of it. The R3 pricing reflects this. Canon isn’t worried about losing user base to Nikon or Sony and it probably knows it’s not going to draw many Sony users in. So why lowball the price.

$6K is pricey to be sure, but honestly $5550 isn’t that much cheaper to sway buyers. They’ll buy what fits their shooting style and/or lens collection, not to save $500.

I’m glad to see Nikon back in the game and helping to moderate prices. With Nikon’s flagship at $5500 and Sony’s at $6500 it boxes Canon in for R1 pricing. Frankly if anyone has arrogant pricing it’s Sony. For $6500 you don’t even get a grip.
