Overall the corners and edges are still soft at 16mm, but overall the frame is acceptably sharp and usable.

For better corner/edge sharpness at 16mm, make sure to process the RAW file with any lens profile distortion correction turned off (unless required, of course). I`ve posted an example here[1].

Holy cow! This makes a huge difference. Thanks so much @boogisha!

Here's 100% crop comparison of the lower right corner. Left side is DNG converted with Iridient X-Transformer with lens corrections off. Right side is the same RAW file imported directly into Lightroom (corrections automatically applied).

This is a massive difference. I'm going to buy an Iridient license right away

Well worth the extra minute it takes to DNG convert my RAWs.

100% crops lower right corner of frame

Or use C1. I routinely turn off distortion correction. For many shots a little distortion is not noticeable. I frequently find it's also an improvement if there's a person near the edge of the frame and they don't get stretched.

Or RawTherapee.

Also, without distortion correction, the 16mm end becomes more like a 15mm
