To build or not to build a PC...

Hi Folks,

I have been thinking on To Build or Not To Build a new PC mostly for photo editing and calculation for works (more cores would be better I think). The idea is clearly tempting, but I am have not pulled the trigger yet.

My current setup was built in 2014 (still runs rather well):

* Intel Core i7 4770K, Core Speed 4199.0 MHz cooled with Noctua DH-14. Nice CPU for its time. It still runs rather well.
* Asus Maximus Hero VI
*Gskill 16 GB (2x 8GB) DDR3-1866
* Samsung SSD 840 EVO 250GB + a few 2 TB HDD
* Fractal Define R4
* AMD Radeon HD 7700 Series 1 GB
* 500W power supply

After reading / watching YT ad infinitum (just kidding), here is what I came across for a decent setup:

(i) CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 5800X or Ryzen 9 5900X. My choice seems to go towards the higher end with the 5900X as it runs cooler.

(ii) CPU Cooler: Artic Liquid Freezer II 360

(iii) Motherboard: TUF gaming x570 pro wifi. Maybe a B550 should suffice. Any recommendations?

(iv) Memory: Crucial Ballistix 32 GB (2 x 16 GB) DDR4-3600 CL16. Gskills would be fine too...

(v) Storage: Samsung 980 Pro 1 Tb M.2. I have plenty of 2TB WD (Blue) and Toshiba which would be great for backing up photo files.

(vi) Case: Lian Li Lancool II Mesh Performance (no RGB please :-P)

(vii) Power Supply: Not sure yet, a Gold Certified fully modular ATX. 650-850 W depending on the GPU

(viii) GPU: I have not yet decided. A RX 6600 XT or 3060 Ti would be a good upgrade, but it might be overkill as I don't do any gaming.

I believe I can manage to find the right config for about 2k USD assuming the GPU does not cost a leg.

Advice / recommendations are more than welcome.

Cheers,

Max
