Thanks for getting back to me . I’m actually in the manual mode ( wheel on the right side ie Av,TV,, P, M etc. Any other ideas you can think of.
Manual mode is not equal to Manual Focus. The manual mode will allow you to set the aperture manually (as well as shutter speed and ISO). Otherwise the camera will not know the aperture of the lens.
You should set the mode selector (wheel) to M.
You really don't need to. The camera will NEVER know the aperture of the lens in any mode, but it will meter accurately in stop-down mode in Av, Tv, P or M. The aperture is of course set on the lens itself.
Then use the multi directional button on the back of the camera. The one that has 'Set' in the center and the a ring around it with arrows up, down, left and right. The 'left' should have physical letters on it 'AF / MF'. Once you hit that button, the screen will indicate MF.
With a manual focus lens, the camera switches automatically to manual focus, so no need to do anything on the camera.
On top of this you should enable 'Release shutter without lens' in the menu.
This is the critical bit.
As a friendly advice... check out the user manual. This can be helpful
True on all items. Just tried again with the efm32 handheld in reverse position (i.e. the lens front element against the camera) as I do not have any manual lenses. The camera went to manual focus automatically and did the metering without an aperture setting.
