At nearly a thousand dollars one would expect decent dust and moisture sealing. If you have this Lens and its over 5 years old , SELL IT OR TRADE IT IN!
This WAS a amazing lens for the first half of the time I owned it

My video review

Canon EFS 17-55 f2.8 IS Lens ( 9 YEAR REVIEW )

It's still a current lens.   Compared with the original EF 24-105 f/4 it's cheaper, 25g lighter, but bigger, effectively ⅓ stop slower and ¾ of the zoom range.  It's all of the reasons why I wouldn't buy an f/2.8 APS-C zoom lens.

I didn't think Canon ever made a weatherproofed EF-S lens, but I wouldn't expect any weatherproofing to last five years if there are moving parts involved.  My camera that's supposed to be Waterperry to 40m depth will only stay that way if all the O ringsare changed each year.
