How to deal with highlighted skies ? Sigma Dp1 Quattro

I apologize forehand if maybe someone else already posted a question about this here but I simply could not find it. Today it was a beautiful sunny autumn day here and I went to a park in Oudkerk, The Netherlands. The sun was so bright and on a certain angle that a lot of the skies did not look right. I know the Sigma can not handle all the highlights well but how do I counter that ? Maybe a filter is an option but then, what kind of filter should I need ? No experience with filters and landscape photography, so hance my question. No editing done, just in SPP and export to JPG.
