Musings about the Sony IMX472 stacked MFT sensor
5

Sony recently published new spec sheet information on the IMX472 20MP Stacked MFT sensor

The one thing that struck me about is the full pixel readout @ 120FPS. In addition to potentially having an unprecedented MP to frame rate ratio which would be quite astounding for action-typed shooting, it seems like it could also make for very useable hand-held high-res shots. Perhaps the combination of blackout-free E-Shutter and the extra 1.46M pixels on sensor would obviate the need for mechanical movement of the sensor during the pixel shift. It seems that HHRS at respectable frame rates would be much more practical for a variety of uses and negate a lot of the perceived disadvantages of a "low megapixel" sensor camera and also some of the current limitations of HHRS. Of course, all of this remains to be seen, but it will be very interesting to see what gen 2 HHRS looks like.
