Kit zooms. Why?
1

After acquiring a vintage 35mm film SLR in a charity auction, I noted that the ‘kit’ lens was a 50mm f1.8. After doing a bit of research on the history of film SLRs I noticed a pattern that the 50mm f1.8 seemed to be he default lens that you got when you bought a camera.

when did the 50mm f1.8 stop being the ‘standard’ kit lens? Why the shift to slower zooms? Did this become a trend with the move to digital?
