Doesnt the x100f just bring you kinda back to the rebel with the 35mm? You got rid of that because it wasnt good enough for lowlight.

I owned and still do the Olympus Stylus Epic film camera, fixed 35mm lens that's decent, f2.8 so not to bad in the speed department, one stop slower than my X100f. The Epic was a cult camera for photo nerds just as the X100 series is a nerdy cult camera.

And, oh yah, its "full frame."

But about the Rebel with 35mm lens, yes it did bring me back to that combo, but with an even a smaller profile. If it hadn't been me farting around with the Rebel/lens combo I probably wouldn't own the X100f. And if Leica hadn't produced like cameras to the X series but at a much greater price, I wouldn't have notice my Fuji. I think many of us "cultists" see the X series as the poor man's Leica but at the price level, a more full featured value.

The difference between the Leica and the X cameras reminded me of a bokeh comparison of the Canon 50mm f1.2 lens and the original Sigma 50mm 1.4, can't remember who did it. The results showed both bokehs' were creamy smooth delicious. It also showed the Canon's bokeh was better, but only marginally so, both had the buttery quality bokeh freaks like. If I showed you a picture from either lens and asked you to judge the bokeh, you would award either lens and "excellent." For the marginally better, you paid a steep price compared to the Sigma.

So the Leica is marginally better, but the price is steep for a marginal improvement.

I watched an interesting YT video recently comparing Fujis to Sonys. They compared the 2 as Fuji owners are artists and Sony owners are professionals. I kind of like to tell myself that Fuji cameras arent a poor man's Leica, but rather, the NEW Leica of this generation.

But I have to agree with you. I feel like these days, the similarities of apsc and FF far outweight the differences in terms of image quality.
