New Video with many good tips particularly for RF100-500 users

Jan Wegner and Glenn Bartley just put out a video with a great set of tip. They are both bird photographers but the tips are applicable to anyone who is shooting pictures with long lenses and tracking.

Big takeaways:

  • DxO pure raw (or DxO PL4 with Deep Prime) is vastly better than Adobe Camera Raw. While they mention DxO in the beginning, they show the example later in the video (see below)
  • Make sure to turn on the graphic accelerator for Topaz (and DxO).
  • TC are so good with the RF 100-500 that you can get great pictures with them. Combined with DxO you can get away with higher ISO.
  • Jan says that when handheld tracking/panning with "spray and pray" at low shutter speed he finds he gets many more keepers using electronic shutter.
  • Other good tips such as how to hold the camera and how to change the TC in and out on the RF100-500. That you have to use the caps with the RF TCs (and the caps are a pain).

BTW, I also highly recommend Jan's video on how to set up the R5 for dual back button focus. I'm not into bird photography, but his tips are widely applicable.

Jan's Adobe Raw versus their "flow" that included DxO
