Have I made a mistake getting the 200-500mm f5.6?

I have been out of photography for the last 8 years,

I got the 200-500mm lens a couple of months ago, together with a brand new D500. You guessed it, birds and other wildlife, and lots of fps (my other camera is a D800).

Now only recently I realized that the 500mm PF exists. I shoot 99% of my images at 500mm and would zoom in further if possible (I have the TC1.4 and TC1.7, but haven't been very successful with it in combination with the 200-500mm).

Is it only the weight of the lens that is better, or is the image quality better as well? I am assuming the using TCs with it on a DSLR body will still suck?
