Although Japanese is phonetic, much of Asian language, writing, and design is far more pictorial and representative in nature than western linguistics and gramatica. Think facial expression on car grills etc.

I always thought the “Z” and the style or design of the font characters’ double slant to denote the SLR visual pathway and respective “mirror”. Perhaps a nod to Nikon’s heritage and legacy as it builds on that foundation to chart the next innovative journey and vision?
