In the civilized world, it is pronounced "zed", as it's origins are found in the greek language and the greek letter ζ (zeta, "ζῆτα").

Our alphabet lugs around history of several thousand years, and at some places it's ancestors are quite visible - the "Y" which is still pronounced "ypsilon"  in several languages as it's greek origin is, or "greek I" as for instance in french  "I grec".

The pronounciation "zee" is used in two countries only, the US and the Philippines.

The rest of the english-speaking world uses "zed".
