Recent Dell orders

I received the email indicating the camera would be shipped on the
28th of November as well, but like others here, when I checked
online, it was already assigned an airborne express tracking number.
I'm wondering if we all have the same tracking numbers and this is
just another Dell "mistake"?
The last 4 digits of my tracking number are: xxxxxxxx6860
--They ship from other suppliers and Dell just gives a date that most of the time is way out. Makes sense because when it shows up way ahead of time you will be happy. I have bought from themabout 8 to 10 times and it's been this way everytime. I would bet your camera will show up on Monday.

Mine arrived this morning.

Ordered Sunday night, told on Wednesday that it was "delayed" and nearly cancelled, had it in my hands Friday morning. It turns out that it had shipped out before Dell notified me of the delay. Like I said before, you've gotta wonder what's going on down at Dell.

Regardless, I saved $100. Thanks to whoever passed the sale info along to begin with.
But I guess that's what I get for ordering on the last day of a
discount sale!

:(
A question to those who ordered the Rebel from Dell in the evening
of Oct 25 or later (with the 10% discount): have you received a
shipping notice yet?

Look, I paid the price they were asking for this camera that was
spposed to be in stock and shipped the next day. I kept my part of
the deal and I just want Dell to keep their part. I don't think
that I'm asking too much.

I don't think that routine "unexpected delays" should be acceptable.
Even when something is "in stock" it clearly indicates "USUALLY ships same day"... that means it's not a guarenteed to go out the same or next day.

Like I said, if you don't like the huge discount you are getting, buy it elsewhere.

i've ordered many items from Dell, they usually arrive in 2 to 3 days even with the free shipping option. theyre great in this regard. sounds like an unusual problem with the shipper. call dell service to report shipping problem.
Airborne Express is supposed to be "Express", but for some reason,
they are being the slowest shipper in the world.

10/27/03 Airborne Express picked up the Camera from Dell
10/28/03 Camera is in transit
10/29/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio
10/30/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio
10/31/03 Camera is at sorting facility in Wilmington, Ohio

What's up with Airborne Express holding my camera in their sorting
facility for 3 days?

Well I guess Mr. Dell knew I really did not mean to cancel my order... talk about Big Brother.... maybe he does know what's best for me....

Just got a notice that my order from Dell will be delayed until
11/28 (originally promised to ship on 10/31).
Idiots... How hard is it to keep track of inventory?
My thoughts exactly: subtract one from the quantity on hand for
each new order!!! DOH!!! So I cancelled my order with Dell...

John

This happens quite frequently with Dell... you will get a notice that the order is pushed back, but in fact is ships within a day or so anyway. They don't even have time to cancel the order from shipping (although if you want to return it you just call them, get a return shipping form and send it back, no problem).

People get irritated by this type of thing but I think they fail to comprehend how many 10's of thousands of orders Dell processes daily.

Coming via airborne exp. Do you guys know if someone needs to be home to sign? I do not want them to place a "nobody home" stiky and take the baby back to airborne center.

Airborne simply left mine on the front step... but then again I get tons of packages all the time.

I would leave a signed note, including the tracking number to make sure they don't leave a hanger on your door saying that they tried to deliver and that you were not home.

...thanks for the tip!! Mine is scheduled for delivery tomorrow and I won't be home. I'll put a signed note on the door and hope he/she leaves the package. I have no idea where my Airborne center is located for my area and I don't want to have to "hunt" down the package.

I ordered on the 10/30 and received an email saying it will be delayed until 12/1. I almost cancelled my order, but I came to DPREVIEW.com to see if anyone else was having the same problem and found this thread. After reading the thread, I checked my order again at dell.com. It still says In Production. However, when I click for details, it says it was shipped today via Airborne. Hope this helps anyone who was about to cancel their order. I think $899.10 is a great deal.

--I had a bad 300 they exchanged it no problem, sent me the replacement camera first had it for the weekend works great. Airborne is now scheduled to pick up the returning camera. Today I ordered a Canon A80 and I just checked the order status and it now has a tracking number.

--I have been preaching this for along time. What you see in the order status means nothing. I see this all the time where it says it is in production and the next thing you know it's at your door step. One thing a person must remeber is Dell's return policy. 30 days full refund how can you beat that even for a little inconvience?

Ordered 10/28 in the morning. Told it would ship 10/31. Called on 10/31 and told it would ship 11/28. Shipped 10/31. Received 11/3. Happy.

Notes:

The Digital Rebel I purchased from Circuit City two weeks ago has a serial number starting with 056 and came with firmward 1.0.2.

The Digital Rebel I purchased from Dell and received on 11/3 has a serial number starting with 066 and has firmware 1.1.1.

It seems these orders that Dell fulfills are Rebels right off the assembly line.

The Dell one has far fewer hot pixels during long exposures. ISO 800 at 30 seconds reveals 3 tiny green and 1 medium blue scattered in different areas. The Circuit CIty one has a bunch of red, blue, and greens, some large, at that setting.

ISO 200 at 15 seconds reveals nothing.

It might be just my imagination, but this picture seems a tad sharper in the Dell one. I had some out of focus shots in the original. I need to replicate the scenario with the new one to make sure (taking pics of the kids moving around, dancing, etc).

My Dell camera has a 056 serial number and 1.0.2 firmware, but in very light testing so far seems to focus just fine.

It has been my observation that Dell consistenly underpromises and overdelivers. Frankly, this is a superb business policy. By lowering your expectations, they normally traet you toa pleasant suprise, but even if there is a delay, you were forwarned. They put smiles on a lot of faces this way.
