150-400mm focus when zooming in on racehorses?

Hi there,

Has anyone any experience using the 150-400mm / em1x  to photograph thoroughbred racehorses?

Am particularly interested in the zoom/focus speed and accuracy when the horses are coming towards you head on.

The process would be to start shooting them at the top of the straight at 400mm and then keep taking photos of the horses coming towards you whilst zooming back to 150mm as they get closer so you can keep everything in the frame.

Horses normally travel around 60km/hr.

Any advice appreciated particularly with accuracy and keeper rates...

Cheers,
Chumby
