Re: How frequently your Canon EOS R5 has locked up?
I had my first lockup 2 weeks ago, but I also have to add that I don't use my R5 on a daily base.
I was shooting video on both cards with the newest firmware in 1080p, recording hundreds of small clips at an event without any issue. Then I was asked to take a group photo, when after the second shot may EVF and LCD got permamently frozen, displaying that writing the photos takes time. I took only a few photos (7, I guess) and not a burst, by the way.
I had to take out the battery as the camera couldn't write the photos on the cards. I tried it again with the same result. The camera got frozen and I had only the message displayed that the photos are being written on the card - which never happened. I had to take out the battery again.
Then a few minutes later I took out the CFExpress card and tried the SD card - the camera froze again.
Then I used only the CFExpress card and took out the SD card - there was no issue.
Then I tried to shoot video on both cards, there was no issue. When I got home, I tried to take photos on both cards without formatting - there was no issue anymore.
So it looks like the problem is more related to the SD card. I used the best Cobalt Prograde cards, by the way.
I hope, Canon can sort this out, since it was very frustrating to mess up the group photo. I hoped that the photos are saved on one card at least, but they weren't. My Canon 5D IV was in my bag and unfortunately I didn't reach for it. The lens I used: Canon EF 24-105 4L IS with a Canon adapter.
