i shoot mostly at 1/1000 and above (to freeze action) and I find negligible difference between IS and non IS.

i find the canon IS on my 100-400 II is much better than the IS on the sigma and TAMRON 100-400 contemporary lenses, which I also owned.

May I safely assume you do most of your shooting in good lighting?
