In total agreement about the disappointment part.

Nikon is a class leading brand in the DSLR realm.  Despite the D780 being quite the lukewarm update, I feel their DSLR products are tops in that category.

But they're an also-ran in the mirrorless world so far.  Also-ran doesn't mean they aren't good cameras.  They are.  Depending on what your requirements are.  Now that I have transitioned out of my event photography and runway modeling as I head towards retirement my performance requirements in a camera have scaled back.

So I will be able to continue with Nikon mirrorless for the next 20 years regardless of what happens with the Z9.  But it just doesn't feel good to be using best in class one day and then also-ran the next.

I just got done pretty much saying I don't need a Z9 (and I don't), but if it delivers what Nikon is "promising" I'm probably going to get one.
