I've just had an idea. Considering the lens is still in production since 1993 (according to Wikipedia), do you think the newer (like from the past ten years or something) ones could possibly have better image quality due to better manufacturing process or something?

I don't know but I did not care for this lens because while it's light enough to use handheld, it does not have image stabilization. So it really requires a tripod, which then negates the advantage of being light enough to be handheld.

Add to that the 5.6 aperture, and it's just an unfortunate set of compromises, and it was an easy lens to let go of, for me at least.

I would not be tempted to repurchase a lens like this, regardless of quality.

If you need IS you need it.

I didn’t so really loved the 400 f5.6. Very sleek lens.
