Thanks for these.  The "brick wall" images are not bad at all when imported and converted using the RF 16mm f2.8 profile in Canon's DPP.  Edge sharpness and detail (in the lichen) is perfectly acceptable by f5.6 and very good at f8.  Exported as 16-bit tiffs into DXO Photolab or PS they look pretty good.  The un-profiled RAWs look awful but that is as expected.

My 16mm arrives tomorrow and I will post some images as soon as I can. They will be real-world landscape images, not test images.

I do have the EF 16-35 f4 but this lens is not intended as a substitute, and I don't really plan on comparing it.  It will be part of a lightweight travel kit with EOS R body, RF16mm, RF24-105STM and RF100-400.  I can live with using DPP to convert to tiff until both the new lenses have profiles in DXO or Adobe, or somebody makes an Adobe-compatible profile.
