Thank you for putting the raw files online.

It looks like a good cheap lightweight option for landscapes, however my initial hopes this lens would work in astro vanished. With such a heavy barrel distortion, even after correction, the stars will look too distorted.

So this lens isn't really practical to have in addition to EF 16-35 f4. It's worse at any f-stop at 16mm and unusable at f2.8, which would have been the primary reason to have it on top of the EF 16-35.

A pure rectilinear wide angle of 16mm without distortion on rectilinear objects, does distort the constellations in the corners and the bright stars in the corner tend to be more distorted as well, effects of coma will be exacerbated. It is a projection of a spherical image (the sky is a virtual sphere in which the user / camera is in the center) on a flat surface (the sensor).  For diagonal FOV below 90 degrees (e.g. 24mm == 84º) it is acceptable, but for 16mm you can better have barrel distortion, such as a fisheye.

So the RF 16mm, if it really has barrel distortion, is useful for astrophotography (assumed softness, coma and CA is within limits).
