Well personally, I'm still buying nice bits of kit from mounts that were dropped in the mid 80s.

If you are looking to invest, speak to a financial advisor - few will recommend buying a camera..

If you are looking for something to take pictures with, I would not disregard SLRs -the same way as I wouldn't have told people to disregard rangefinder cameras back in the 80s...
