We should disagree. Art would be dull without different points of view.

I think the "odd question" is valid. I think SOOC is a legit style, technique, whatever you want to call it.

Just some thoughts: This topic overlaps with computational photography, where the computer in the smartphone interprets the image. Where does that fall in the SOOC debate?

Flipping the question over (again) there is a pushback against editing where the image is far removed from the original, creating a derivative image, but presented as an SOOC image. The question becomes whether you're looking at a photograph or raster, maybe vector, art. (I've seen some incredible, photorealistic work.)
