Very wise...

Many people use a digital camera to scan slides/negs these days. The resolution is as good as the better film scanners, but a film scanner can also provide some facilities (e.g. digital ICE and neg conversion) that can be invaluable on certain poor quality media. However, slide scanners are usually much, much slower.
