How do I achieve the shallow depth of field in this shot?

What kind of lens do I need to achieve the shallow depth of field seen in this shot? https://www.theclickcommunity.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2012/02/image4.jpg

I have a DX 50mm/f1.8 lens but it can only get this much bokeh if the subject is closer (yes, I am fully open when shooting). I also have a DX 18-300mm/f3.5-6.3 lens, but it can only get this much bokeh if I'm fully zoomed in, but then I have to be so far away from my subject that it's not really practical. The background is a mountain range, so it's not an issue of the background being too close to the subject. What lens do I need or am I doing something wrong here?
