Panning Practice--Wee Jets

If you need to practice your panning, find a small airfield where tiny model jets are being flown. I really like the ZS70 for this. It has almost no inertia and you can point, slew, elevate, etc. almost instantly. The very long zoom is less of an advantage than you might think. You have to be able to aim it. A ZS200 might do just as well.

Plum Island Airport, Newbury MA

This is a not very close copy of a DeHaviland Vampire/Venom/Sea Vixen.

Here's the business end.

Both jets, one smaller.

Smooth cruise

Nice oblique shot

Faster than a speeding sea gull

Low pass

VERY low pass--Here's where practice pays off.

But in truth, most of my photos looked like this, or blank blue sky. Practice, practice, practice.
