R5: focus on a selected eye or switch to a different eye

I have Canon R5.  Its AF is a game changer, IMHO.

I have configured the following buttons for AF:

1. AF-ON button for eye defect

2. * button for 5 point (or small zone)

3. The right most button for a single point

For a single bird (perched or in-flight), it works great.

Consider the following scene: three birds with all eyes visible.

I am able to tell which eye to focus if I use (2) or (3).  However, I can't figure out how to tell the camera to focus on a selected eye using (1).  Also, once an eye is focused using (1) I don't know how to switch to another eye.

I appreciate any tips you have on this.
