ND filters...I know, I know

I know it's been discussed a ton but in my research for a bang-for-the-buck brand to start with has left me frustrated

Let's narrow it down to screw in ND filters.  I want to get one that will fit a larger lens and use step-down adapters for other lenses...for now

And this isn't a thread for discussing the number of stops I need for varying light conditions

It seems as if the "you get what you pay for" adage applies to all ND filters but I just want a brand I can narrow my focus down to just to have a few ND filters on hand to experiment with.  Not crappy, not the worst, not the best...and not a lot of money
