More adventures in DIY scanners and scanning

Further progress is do it yourself scanning with a GFX 100 and the 120/4 GF macro lens.

I decided that enlarger negative carriers might work better than the Imacon ones. This is a Durst 6x6 carrier.

It has the advantage that it has a nice wide black surround.

Using home canning lid retainers, I raised the negative carrier above the Rosco diffusing gels so that I wouldn't have to worry about dust that wasn't on the neg itself.

I used a couple of TMX (Tmax 100 to those unfamiliar with Kodak film codes) negs for testing.

This one I sharpened a bit. Hasselblad 501c, 50 mm lens.

This one has only a few parts sharpened. Hasselblad 501c, 40 mm lens.

The camera can't resolve the film grain in TMX at 1:2, so it looks mushy. This is not mainly a problem with the lens, I think, but of the number of pixels available at 1:2.

Stitching at 1:1 may provide an answer, but that's pretty labor intensive, and I don't think I'll print any of these big.
