The 24mm F2.8 STM pancake lens is a must have as is the EF 50mm F1.8 STM

Both cost so little and are so good in terms of sharpness, clarity, through frame acuity, and colour rendition anyone with any rebel would be mad not to own them

The Sigma 17-50mm EX DC OS HSM F2.8 is an excellent prime-like quality fast zoom and the price is amazing especially used.  Really prime lens type quality and F2.8 right through.  Professional grade image quality and reviews better for IQ than both the NKON and Canon 17-55 F2.8's!!!!!

If he wants to try wide angle the 10-18mm STM is a slow lens but boy is it sharp and the IQ is amazing again.

All Canon APS-C specific lenses are excellent for IQ and are bargains at the same time.

That Sigma 17-50mm F2.8 EX DC OS HSM though, killer lens.  Big though
