Changing zone focusing using a tabbed MF lens

I recently came across an interesting technique of zone focusing on a Leica.
You need a lens with a tab on the focus ring. You set aperture and basically turning the knob 45º to one side gives you shallower DOF, and 45º to the other side gives you more DOF. This means you could potentially just select your aperture, turn the ring, and shoot almost like a phone. You would then use the EVF or back screen to compose.
Does this work on a Fuji mount lens. I am thinking in particular of the different 33/35 mm f/0.95, 1.2 lenses.
I'd love to hear from someone who actually shoots street with such a lens in this way.
Thanks
