12-40 PRO and strong lights from aside kill blacklevel

Maybe you have a bit of advice for me: I have a 12-40 where the normal hood can no longer be attached. The "thread" where you normally screw the hood onto is totally gone. It's completely taken off by the previous owner. Since I NEVER use hoods I thought it wasn't an issue.

But I noticed a couple of occasions where contrast is totally killed by strong sidelights. I mean more than just a couple. Black level goes down the drain it all gets hazy. I wonder if this lens actually really NEEDS a hood, more so than average?

I've seen third party hoods that can be "screwed" on the filter thread, which is still intact. Would that be an idea? Would it actually MATTER? Has anyone else seen a bit of a flare problem with this lens?

Kind regards,

Bas Hamstra
