Possible to clean fungus from fixed rangefinder lens?

I've been browsing eBay for old rangefinders, mainly to salvage the lens and modify it for digital. I keep ignoring the ones that have fungus, but then you're looking at a half decent, functional camera and I can't bring myself to tear down a perfectly good rangefinfer.

How easy is it to clean the fixed lens of, say, an Olympus SP (Zuiko 42mm) once it has been removed from the body? The interior of some of these fixed lenses look less accessible than more sophisticated lenses, but IDK. I've never tried this before.

Any pointers? Not on how to clean the lens but if it can be attempted successfully.

TIA
