Moving on from a Lumix G3 in 2021 (!) - where next?

Hi all,

When M4/3 was all the hype, and the Lumix G3 was released almost 10 years ago, I picked one up with the legendary 20mm f1.7mm pancake lens.

It's served us tremendously, from family occasions to holiday/travel, to landscape photos, to videos, and everything in between. Even if that specific lens isn't considered an all-rounder!

Whilst the prime lens could be regarded as 'limited', its sharpness,, low light ability, and DOF has been brilliant. Coupled with the G3's articulating screen and form factor, a great combo. If the body was any larger, we'd be reluctant to carry it with us on trips out.

Decision Time:

10 years on it's time to consider new kit. But the market and technology has moved on quite a lot! We still seek a compact form factor and hence highly likely rule out a full on DSLR. Everyone seems to use large lens these days but for us that's not practical.

Must Haves:

With all of the above in mind, we feel it'll be difficult to not have:

  • Small body (a la G3)
  • Articulating screen
  • HD (4K ideally) video capability (IS ideally!)
  • WiFi media transfer (never had this, still relay on cable)

What is out there? Is there an obvious choice?

  • Canon EOS M50 Mark II? (this apparently has very poor video capability)
  • Canon EOS M6 Mark II? (this does not have articulating screen or EVF)
  • Should Sony be considered?
  • Did Panasonic make a natural successor?
  • Anything else?

Where you did go after the G3?

Thanks in advance!
