AF unresponsive EOS R and 100-400mm MKII EF

I’ve been having a few AF issues with my EOS R + Canon 100-400 MKII EF combo. Suddenly out of the blue the AF is unresponsive.

I’m wondering if it’s because I sometimes use old Canon LP-E6 batteries, using the EOS R battery which is the Canon LP-E6n so far I haven’t had issues.

If I eject and replace the same Canon LP-E6 the AF works again….

BTW I never had this with my Sigma 100-400 lens.

Is this a known issue using the old Canon LP-E6 batteries or could this possibly be something else cause the AF to stop respond.

Coincidentally both times this has happened I was shooting when it was hot and there was bright sunshine hitting the lens. Just a thought.
