urban wildlife

This is a first for me. I have only seen beaver structures like lodges, damns but never their builders until this summer. First, a little preamble. Beavers are nocturnal and is the second largest rodent on Earth behind the capybara. The beaver is also a "symbol of the sovereignty of Canada". However, the creature is not found on Canada's Coat of Arms. Where it is found is on the face of the 5 cent coin and in the Coat of Arms of the Hudson Bay Company whose formation predates the country.

Hard to imagine beaver hats were once a fashion statement in 17th century Europe

Looks small in the photo but is actually quite big.

"No matter how elegant the subject, an image requires something more than a literal recording of that scene. It needs a moment a gesture or light or color to add that third dimension and make it memorable." - Annie Griffiths
