I bought my 80-400 before the 200-500 came out. I really like my 80-400. From the reviews and talking to other owners at my club I would say the 200-500 would be a better choice since it goes to 500. Recently I picked up the 500 f5.6 PF. I really like it. It's a little more expensive than the ones you are talking about but it is really good and not nearly as much as a f4 exotic.

My suggestion is, if you can consider the 500 PF go for it. If not go for the Nikon 200-500.

BTW the only zooming I need is to zoom in more so I don't miss the zoom at all.
