What the 40mm f2 means for a street camera
20

As background, I would have bought a Leica M for street, but the focusing technology, etc. is obsolete and requires a boring learning curve. Likewise, I would buy a Sony RXR1 III, but the predecessor camera is too old.  Or a Leica Q, but 28mm is too wide for me.

So a smaller mirrorless Nikon is a substitute for that kind of elegant small 35-50mm street prime lens camera. If it had the right lens. Which is most certainly did not until now.

This image makes obvious what Nikon was previously lacking.

These comparisons speak for themselves.

Z7II

Zfc   (28mm would probably be used instead, but the size is similar).

I will continue to shoot primarily with zooms, but the 40mm will fall into the rotation, be kept in the pocket for dusk, and be a mainstay for night shooting.
