"detected a face" not so much Locked

"detected a face" not so much

Walking around a small town taking photos, and although for the most part I frame and shoot carefully, but once in a while I take something quickly and don't really have time to compose and shoot and want to be totally candid, and so I wanted to capture this goofy guy with totally weird hair, but didn't work out. I relied on the camera XE4 to help me, the playback screen says that it "detected a face" but obviously the tree in focus is not a face.

So, I wonder how to make sure in this kind of situation that there can be a more reliable result. Took several, but they all focused on the tree. Here is the result:
