btw, mirrorlesscomparison.com found that the 75mm and the 35-100mm@100mm framed alike for distant subjects: https://mirrorlesscomparison.com/micro-four-thirds-lenses/olympus-75mm-f1-8-vs-panasonic-35-100mm-f2-8/

No, that's not correct. For distant subjects, the two lenses frame about the same at the same FL setting (75 mm for both). For close subjects, by contrast, the framing of the 75/1.8 will roughly correspond to that of the 35-100/2.8 at 100 mm, which means that the latter suffers from rather strong focus breathing.

Thanks, if you re-read my remark I wrote "distant subjects", but perhaps I should have emboldened it for emphasis.

Evidently, you were replying while I revised this, above, to: "I see what you mean, yes, I wrote it in reverse. The article makes it clear."

Well my point is that what you claimed isn't true for distant subjects. It is true for close subjects only.

You’re right, thanks!
Yes, just after replying, I realised my error and corrected it. Good catch

"At a close focus distance, you’ll notice that the Lumix 35-100mm (set to 75mm) has a significantly wider field of view than the Olympus 75mm. In fact, to achieve a similar field of view from the two lenses, you must zoom in to 100mm with the 35-100mm."

"However, if you focus on a distant object or at infinity, the 35-100mm’s field of view at 75mm is almost identical to that of the Olympus lens. This demonstrates that the focal length gives an accurate field of view with the lens focused at infinity. Indeed, the angle of view is always calculated with the focus distance set to infinity."

(I was foolishly quoting from memory, and should have re-read it first! In so doing, I’ve managed to derail my own point about deciding how and when to upgrade lol.)
