Ok the white background part involves logic.

If you exposed for the subject and the background is grey, then you need to increase the brightness of the background.

During my school’s group photoshoot, they had a large backdrop with 2 flashes pointed at it.

You could apply the same concept and literally overexposed the background. Who cares? They just want it to be white. Make sure your subject is exposed properly, though.
