Your capture and printing sharpening workflow/suggestions?

Sharpening has been my weak spot.  I've never spent the time to run tests on printers, currently Canon 4100, as I've never trusted "sharpen on screen until crunchy."

Previously, I've used Pixel Genius sharpening, but the results seemed pretty subtle for how much sharpening in emphasized in workflow discussions.  I know "every image is different and requires it's own sharpening approach," but that has seemed too vague to me.

So I'm interested in hearing from those that have confidence in their sharpening workflow.  Do you suggest Topaz Sharpening AI?

I shoot mostly with a Nikon D810 and sometimes print on canvas at 30x53 inches up-resing to no greater that 180 dpi

It's time to put this issue to rest and use up some ink!
