Sigma 17-50 f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM or Canon 17-40 f/4L on APS-C

Heading to Zion National Park in few weeks with M5 + 11-22 and SL3 with either Sigma 17-50mm f/2.8 EX DC OS HSM or Canon 17-40 f/4L lens  (I don't have this lens but I can borrow it if this is better than Sig 17-50). And Canon 55-250 STM.

I don't want to make my bag heavy with 6D II + 24-70 on the trail.

Most cases, I'm shooting at f/5.6 ~ f/8 so f/2.8 is not important. I'm aware that Sig 17-50 has focus issue but does not happen all the time. Just in case, SL3 has focus peaking function with live view so I should be ok.

Please give me your advise on lens selection.

Thanks.
